Memory and Materiality Group Show/ Feb 2023

In 2023 the full vision for Practice Studio is coming to life. We’ve subdivided our light-filled Southbank studio into two parts, with the shop/ workroom occupying one half and a second studio/ gallery space next door. This second area is now available for creatives to use for workshops, exhibitions, pop-ups and as a short-term studio space. We’re interested in supporting and elevating the profiles of artists and designers who are exploring fashion, textiles and the body within their practice.

LOCATION

Just around the corner from GoMA, with street level access and floor-to-ceiling windows, our Montague Rd studio is positioned to provide high, targeted exposure. Foot traffic is largely comprised of gallery-goers and the area is easily accessible via public transport.

STUDIO/ GALLERY/ POP-UP

The space is designed specifically for emerging brands/ artists and student collectives to use as studio/ pop-up shop/ gallery. Our aim is to provide a supportive hub that will enable creatives to connect with each other and showcase their work to a wider audience.

WORKSHOPS/ PHOTOSHOOTS

Studio B can also be rented out on an hourly/ daily basis for textile workshops and fashion photoshoots. The room is a blank canvas and can be kitted out to suit your needs. Tables and chairs seating 8 people are provided and numerous ceiling hooks allow for easy backdrop draping.

Exhibitions/ POP UPS

Weekly rate $550

  • Install Wednesday 10-5/ Bump out Sunday 2-3

  • Open to the public Thurs 10-5/ Fri 10-5/ Sat 10-4/ Sun 10-2

  • Optional add-on: after hours opening event - charged at an hourly rate of $60/hr

  • Install advice/ materials + website and instagram promotion included.

  • Option to manage sales yourself (no commission taken) or Practice Studio can take care of this for you (commission fee of 25%).

FASHION STUDIO

Explore your creative practice and make new connections by renting out either half or all of the gallery room as a short term studio. We have two desks available and optional access to equipment. These spaces are available for individual designers to use during our regular opening hours and are offered at a discounted rate in order to promote public engagement with process and product. Cover the walls in moodboards, take fitting appointments and gain feedback from real customers. You’re welcome to sell your products from this space as well!

Shared studio space: $230 per week/ Full gallery studio: $450 per week

For Hire:

  • Dressmaking mannequin $10/ week

  • Domestic sewing machine $10/ week

HOURLY HIRE

Our gallery room is also available for hourly hire if you’re running a workshop/ talk or looking for a light-filled room for photoshoots. Our standard rate is $45/hr during our regular opening hours. After hours hire can also be arranged at a rate of $60/hr.
